baghdad arff 30th March 2005, 09:52 Hey All,
Just found this site interesting so i jumped on it, I'm an Asst. Chief of Ops at Baghdad Int. Airport, its an all Arabic fire station( well all arabic but the two A/C's and the Chief.
Been out here 14 months and having a blast....some awsome fires here.
Well...i guess thats it...anyone want to chat shoot me a message or email.
Don 30th March 2005, 10:30 Welcome! Can you post any pictures of your station, apparatus or fire calls from over there. Be safe.
Scott715us 31st March 2005, 00:14 Wow! All the way from Baghdad. Welcome to the site. I would like to see some pics too. Be careful.
shawn_arff 31st March 2005, 00:40 I am a new guy here myself, but I know what you are going through over there, former marine!!..Be careful and CYA!!...
baghdad arff 31st March 2005, 12:55 Hey, Thanks all
Ya....I get a lot of " why over there " questions....like all fire guys I try to follow the good burns...before fire i was EOD so this just seems to be the best place for me...like i said...I've done fire that guys 20 years have not seen...no BS, just the way it is!
Anyone that has been here for less that 6 months has no room to talk smack about the fires and burns here...hell...USAF joined us for a " controlled " burn and were blown away at the size...see, no EPA here;-) LIVE training burn are as they should be...BIG and HOT!!!!!!
Ill set up a picture thing soon...just so all can see the words are true and not a bunch of lip service!
Don 31st March 2005, 15:59 Is your department using USAF Colet K-15's? I heard some are being used over seas. If not what types of appartus are you using?
jpriceusmc 31st March 2005, 16:16 I didn't see any Colets while I was there recently, but the BIAP station on the civilian side has some brand new Oshkosh 3000's and a Rosenbauer. I even got to see them in a little "action" when an AN-12 botched it's landing and tore off a large portion of the wing and almost wrenched off an engine. No fire, but an impressive response from the BIAP ARFF crew. The cockpit is still missing some seat cushions... Harsh conditions but an interesting visit. I'll tell you about the mortars in Mosul sometime...
Stay Safe
baghdad arff 31st March 2005, 23:30 Jim is right...we have brand new t-3000's and a million dallor Rosenbauer. We also have the Iraqi Somati's( a very easy ARFF truck with 3000 gal tank )
and thanks Jim...its good to here the guys looked good on that AN-12, we have been drilling these guys for over a year now and its nice to hear someone else say they looked like they know what their doing!
Lyndon 1st April 2005, 00:18 The Rosenbauer unit at your Airport, this is a brand new unit or an older Simba 6x6?
Pic if you have a chance pls.
In the IAFPA Bulletin late last year an article was done on the Baghdad ARFF by Bruce Edwards? He is still there?
Regards
baghdad arff 1st April 2005, 00:53 Yes the rosenbauer is a brand new truck...ill set something up for pictures, and yes Bruce Edwards is still our Chief, though our contractor numbers have fallen from 15 to 3...most of our guys left after 3 months, there was a time B.I.A.P was pounded by rockets and mortars...its really slowed down now...only about 8-10 hits a week, but the 3 of us contractors left have been here 14 months.
bravogjt 1st April 2005, 17:54 Welcome aboard! I just read an article in the recent issue of ARFF News about Baghdad International's Fire Department. It sounds like you guys have made a great improvement in ARFF over there.
baghdad arff 2nd April 2005, 04:56 bravogjt....any way you can tell me a site link for that article? would love to see if thats from our chief or one of the guys that did 90 days of glory and a year of stories;-)
Thanks,
John

gunhog11 10th April 2005, 02:01 Back in A-10s, I was at Kirkuk, up in the Kurdish north of the country. The CFR there had T-3000s too. But I'd heard that they were leased trucks to the USAF, hence why the AF couldn't work on them, and there was a Oshkosh contractor in-country for repair work. Anyone know more on this?
baghdad arff 11th April 2005, 01:59 Dont know about them....just know our 3 Oshkosh T-3000's are owned by the Iraqi F.D, along with the Rosenbauers and the Somati trucks...our station does have someone that has been through the Rosenbauer school in Germany so he does all the work on the trucks. Through our trucks are new so there are only little issues for him to work on. The AF here has T-3000s and P-19s but they are having HUGE problems with them, they are old and get deployed way to much, so we do a lot of stand-bys and mutual aid with them. Hope that kinda answers your question.
ziggy 13th April 2005, 09:38 What company are you working for? I just spent a year there with a army medical company in the green zone, we worked for Brimer picking up VIPS, nothinbg like snach and grab jobs. I got to know alot of the KBR firefighters and I know Wack and Hut was around.
baghdad arff 17th April 2005, 08:23 We are with a small company called Skylink...we run the civilian side of the Airport...fire, fuel, cargo and ops. Its nice because all are paid well here, we are housed awsome and we can drink off duty;-)
