FIRE CHIEF
AIRPORT FIRE DEPARMENT
PAY GRADE: 80 – EXEMPT ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION
STARTING SALARY: $69,782 - $89,975, COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE
LOCATION: PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
The Port of Portland is actively recruiting a Fire Chief for the Port of Portland Airport Fire Department.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
·
Manage the missions of the Department, which include: aircraft rescue and fire fighting; structural fire
fighting; emergency medical service; water rescue; inspections; fire prevention; and training.
·
Program management and direction
·
Organizational planning.
·
Ensure that the Fire Department meets all requirements of regulatory agencies governing the
operation of an Airport Fire Department, including FAR Part 139.
·
Manage operating and capital budgets.
·
Administer collective bargaining agreement.
·
Administer ordinances, directives, policies and procedures of the Port and the Fire Department.
·
Keep current on all Civil Service rules and regulations and Departmental unit procedures.
·
Function as an Incident Commander or primary responder for an incident involving PDX Fire
Department emergency response.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
·
Preference will be given to candidates with airport experience.
·
Progressively responsible experience in the operation and management of a fire department.
·
Course work or experience equivalent to a degree in Fire Science, Business Administration or related
field.
·
Comprehensive, current knowledge of fire science/prevention skills and technology.
·
Comprehensive knowledge of safety practices involved in fire suppression, fire fighting, and
emergency rescue.
·
Command experience in airport Incident Command System (ICS), preferably in an airport ICS
structure.
·
Knowledge of fire and emergency equipment. Experience with airport fire fighting apparatus
preferred.
·
Proven supervisory experience.
