SCBA seats for drivers

Does anyone have a SCBA mounted in ARFF driver seat? Due to our manning level we are considering
a SCBA mounted in the driver/operators seat in our new ARFF unit. Any thought on this?
Thank you

Skee, we have 2 arff rigs with 911 seats in the drivers spot. We
have used them for several years. Often we run just a driver so
if he must dismount for any reason he can don his scba by just
putting on the straps. We also have a full time F16 base here,
the dangers of hydrazine require the driver to have the ability
to mask up even while driving. This gives him a quick and easy
option for fresh air. Both of our driver seats are adjustable and
they come with a padded cover for the scba plate if you desire.

Hi Skee - We have a 2000 Oshkosh TS-3000I with a Bostrom Firefighter seat in the driver's position. We will take delivery of a KME 1500 gallon unit later this month that has the same seat in the driver's position. We made the decision to go that way to afford the driver with respiratory protection and also to free up valuable compartment space. It can be a little tight (especially for the larger folks) getting out of the cab with the SCBA on but so far, no major problems.

At JIA we have two T-3000's one with an SCBA seat and one without. My suggestion would be to NOT place SCBA's in the drivers seat. They are very uncomfortable and I really question the safety of climbing out of these trucks with the SCBA on. I would rather take the time to put on the apparatus after climbing down.
